St. Patrick’s Day is a day we can all be a little bit Irish. My youngest is still a believer of fairies, leprechauns, and the Easter Bunny. I’m afraid this will be the last year these magical beings will be “real” for her. She will be turning 9 on Monday, not that she will wake up say, “Hey, there is no such thing as the Easter Bunny!”
I have enjoyed the magic as much as she has. The surprised look on her face as she unwraps a gift and wonders how Santa knew it was the exact one she wanted. The eagerness of finding the perfect decorations for her fairy house that we build each spring. The awe of enchantment that overcomes us both as we watch for signs that leprechauns may be near.
I’m not ready to stop believing.

I too miss the magic as they grow up. Sadly, I think kids are growing up too fast, and somewhere along the lines a bit before middle school they start losing their imagination and sense of fun. Perhaps this is something like the “tween” years. I can say from working with many high schoolers, many of them wish they could keep the magic alive, and miss the days of their youth, when life was much simpler, and more magical.

There’s nothing long with a little magic, is there? We are Jewish so we don’t have much in terms of mystery and magic. However, my daughter is five, which means the tooth fairy is just around the corner. I’ve gotta give her that to believe in, right?
